Integrated Language Arts Our program is literature-based, which means that the children will be surrounded by quality literature, both in big book and trade book form. We will also be using selections from the Houghton Mifflin series anthologies. We will be using the thematic approach, so that much of our reading and writing will relate to the current unit of study. Theme One: All Together Now Theme Two: Surprise! Theme Three: Let's Look Around! Theme Four: Family and Friends Theme Five: Home Sweet HOme Theme Six: Animal Adventures Theme Seven: We Can Work It Out Riddle of the Day I have found that riddles are a great way to help children learn about making inferences, also it helps children listen for rhyming words (phonemic awareness) and it's a fun way to start building vocabulary. Word Wall Each week, we will add five new words to our wall. The words that we add to our word wall are basic sight vocabulary words that are not phonetically correct and/or do not follow traditional spelling and phonics rules. The word wall is arranged alphabetically, and during writing times, we can refer to the word wall when we need to spell a basic sight word! I encourage you to ask your child about the riddle of the day and the word wall words! word wall Below are some great websites for your child to explore! starfall - The Starfall learn-to-read website is offered free as a public service.
