Technology

  • At NFA we have a 4:1 ratio of computers to students.
  • We have three dedicated computer labs.
  • Each classroom has multiple computers with internet capability.
  • Our campus is connected by a gigabit network that is hard wired as well as a campus wide wireless network.
  • Our computers are replaced on a three-year service cycle. Insuring that up to date hardware is available to our entire student body and faculty.
  • Each teacher has a school provided laptop; these are replaced on a three-year service cycle. Insuring that our teachers enjoy the benefits of the same state-of-the art technology as our students.
  • Our school has five dedicated servers. They are housed in a climate-controlled room to insure reliability. Our school has multiple redundant drives and back-ups insuring the reliability and availability of our data.
  • Interactive whiteboards are used on each campus.
  • Monitor Projectors are available for use by all faculty.
  • James Anthony Hall Classrooms have state of the art Wall-talkers Whiteboards, Balt Boss Multimedia Carts and Mimeo Wireless Interactive and capture whiteboards.
  • A Firewall and Content Filter are deployed to provide preventive, reactive and proactive safety and security measures within our network. 
  • Internet Safety is taught from age 5 to Grade 8 using the NetSmartz curriculum. Parental internet safety resource material can be accessed at www.netsmartz.org

Our school has a dedicated technology support team. This team maintains our hardware and software. They provide technical support to the faculty, staff and students. The team provides ongoing professional development to our faculty and staff, so that the best of all available hardware and software is used to its highest potential. This continual education of our faculty and staff allows our students to use our technology to develop their critical thinking and problem solving skills by using the best available computers and software to enhance their education experience. An NFA student by using this technology  can apply knowledge from various domains, this technological ability translates into higher education as well as the business world. The goal of the Norwood-Fontbonne Technology Support Team is to provide current technology advancement in education for both the Norwood and Fontbonne Campuses. Teachers, students, and administration will be empowered with the hardware, software, training, and support necessary to fully integrate computers and technological equipment into the curriculum.  Age appropriate computer skills and technical direction are provided to the students for further advancement in their education.

Our School has a Technology Committee. This dedicated group of administrators faculty and staff are from all areas of the curriculum and age groups from within our school. Our inter-disciplinary approach insures that all areas of curriculum enjoy the maximum benefits of our technology.

At Norwood-Fontbonne Academy Technology is a partnership with the faculty, staff and students to provide a safe, nurturing learning environment in which each child is challenged to fulfill his/her unique potential. Technology within the Norwood-Fontbonne Academy is utilized to enhance success by encouraging students to become active learners through critical thinking, problem solving and fostering personal decision making skills. In this manner all students will be better prepared for today’s world and the future that they will create.
