Primary Elementary Program
(Kindergarten through grade
8)
- From kindergarten onward, NFA maintains a student/teacher ratio that supports a warm and nurturing learning environment. The development of basic skills is accomplished through the use of sequential skill-based text programs, teacher-directed and teacher-facilitated lessons, independent study and research , as well as cooperative and peer learning. The core curriculum includes religion, integrated language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Art, music, technology, library science, physical education, and Spanish enrich the core curriculum. In fourth, fifth, and sixth grade, all students engage in a mathematics enrichment program designed to promote the development of analytic and critical thinking skills.
- Spanish becomes a major subject in grade seven and eight.
- Instruction in grades four through eight
is departmentalized in order to provide students with the academic
and organizational skills necessary to become successful high school
students.
- NFA teachers utilize multiple forms of assessment and administer standardized
tests yearly from kindergarten through grade seven. In our most recent standardized
test, students consistently obtained scores in reading and math that
were higher than those anticipated by their actual cognitive ability.
