Emergency Closing Info

Before the school day

1. A decision regarding school closing is usually made by 6:00 a.m.
•    Listen to radio station KYW 1060 for our school emergency closing number # 160
•    Check KYW’s website www.KYW1060.com Click on school closings and type in NFA’s school # 160.
•    A message will be posted on NFA’s website www.norwoodfontbonneacademy.org and distributed by e-mail to the current family
            e-mail list.
•    There will also be a recorded message on the following school telephone line: 215-247-3811
•    The recorded message will be available by 6:00 a.m.
The NFA phone chain is NOT activated to notify parents if school is closed for the day.
NFA is not able to delay the opening of school because many of our children ride Philadelphia buses. The Philadelphia School District does not offer delayed opening as an option.

Please keep in mind that when a particular school district is closed due to weather conditions, the school district will not provide transportation even if Norwood-Fontbonne Academy may be open. If your child/ren ride a township bus, please listen for your township number for a delayed opening or school closing. Your child/ren will not be marked late if they come to school on a bus that has a delayed schedule.

During the School Day

If a particular school district declares an early dismissal, the NFA phone chain for that district will be activated. Please refrain from
calling the school with last minute instructions for your child/ren. Our staff and telephone lines are needed to activate the emergency
phone chain as well as to handle transportation needs. If you do not wish your child/ren to ride the bus/car line in the event of an
emergency closing, please make alternative arrangements in advance and discuss these arrangements with your child/ren before they
leave for school. Please send a note to your child’s teacher that day stating this change in plans for dismissal.
Every effort will be made to notify parents that their child/ren are on their way home. The emergency phone chain is based on the information parents provided on the Emergency Form regarding whether your child/ren will use bus or car in the event of an emergency closing.
If NFA declares an early dismissal, the KYW 1060 will be advised and the phone chain will be activated. The purpose of the phone chain is to inform you that the children are being dismissed.
•    Call 215-247-3811 and wait for the prompt.
•    Check NFA’s website www.norwoodfontbonneacademy.org for listing of each school district’s decision to pick-up early.
•    Listen to KYW 1060 radio or visit their website www.kyw1060.com and type in our closing #160.
If school closes early, the Loft and After Care programs will close as well.
Most importantly, please remain calm. Please know that supervision will always be maintained until the last child leaves our school. Our priority during an emergency closing, as with any regular school day, is your child’s safety.
